Bio

Mia's paintings explore the symbolism of sexuality and human desire in cinema through still life food imagery painted onto stretched fabric. Drawing from histories of still life and food symbolism, the work examines how metaphors in cinema are used to convey concepts of sexuality, gender, and sexism.

At a time when symbolism and metaphor are able to orchestrate societies perception of sexuality and desire, through painting I analyse the role of food as a symbol in cinema, providing a nuanced approach to the way we use metaphors.

Mia is currently a student at Griffith University/Queensland College of Art and Design studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts. Mia works as a Visitor Services Officer at Home of the Arts (HOTA) on the Gold Coast/Yugambeh Language Region. Mia’s most recent exhibition was a group show at QCAD’s Webb Gallery, Warm Apple Pie, which explored the impact of language through metaphor.
